Spray tanning is a form of sunless tanning where a fine mist is sprayed to your body. The formula interacts with your own skin’s chemistry to turn it tan/bronze.
-
Prep is the most important factor in a successful Spray Tan!
The prep is strict and needs to be followed exactly as it’s posted below.
1-2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR TAN
• Gently exfoliate your body. You can use any exfoliating products during this time up until 12 HOURS BEFORE YOUR TAN.
• Moisterize the skin in the days leading up to your appointment, NOT THE DAY OF.
12-24 Hours Before Your Tan
Make sure your mitt does not have any product on it. Exfoliating Mitts can be purchased at Silla Beauty or you can get one of our favs here.
• Using an exfoliating mitt gently exfoliate your entire body, giving elbows, knees etc an extra scrub.
• DO NOT aggressively exfoliate as it can cause irritation or broken skin.
Silla Beauty WILL NOT spray tan anyone with irritated or broken skin.
• DO NOT use any oil based products 12-24 hours before your tan. An exfoliation Mitt with NO PRODUCT will work perfectly.
Check the ingredients on every thing you use to ensure there is not oil in your products.
Oil will sit on the skin and the Spray Tan Solution will not penetrate the skin properly which results in an uneven tan so it’s VERY important to make sure nothing is oil based. If you’re worried about using the wrong products, Silla Beauty has Tan Safe Prep for purchase.• DO NOT moisturize the skin the day of your tan.
• Waxing + Shaving should be done 24-48 hours BEFORE your tan.
If you decide to shave, do it carefully and it must be done at least 24 hours before, and not the same day as your tan, you risk the tan being uneven or settling into the pores.
Waxing MUST be done 48 hours prior to your tan. Ensure the wax is done properly so there is no lifted skin or you will not be receiving a tan.
• If you are getting a Manicure or Pedicure, you must get it done 24-48 hours before your tan.
If Silla Beauty is doing your Mani/Pedi it can be done properly on the same day and will be a dry service.
• ABSOLUTELY NO Makeup, creams, skin care, perfume, lotion, deodorants after your exfoliation or the day of your tan. The colouring of your tan will be off.• Wear loose, dark clothing. Tie up hair. Remove jewelry.
• You will be asked to undress to your comfort level.
EXFOLIATION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP TO ACHEIVE AN OPTIMAL RESULT THAT WILL LAST UP TO 10 DAYS. WE SUGGEST TO USE A QUALITY SCRUB WITH AN EXFOLIATING MITT THAT WILL ALLOW THE ELIMINATION OF DEAD SKIN CELLS AND IMPURITIES.
PAY ATTENTION TO ROUGH AREAS LIKE FEET, ANKLES, ELBOWS, ARMPITS, KNUCKLES, COLLARBONES, ETC.
IF THE EXFOLIATION HASN’T BEEN DONE PORPERLY, THE RESULT COULD BE UNEVEN AND FADE QUICKLY. OUR PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO FADE GRADUALLY AND EVENLY WHEN THE SKIN IS PROPERLY PREPARED. -
Dark, baggy, and long flowy clothing, open-toed shoes, no bras, or tight clothing after your appointment to ensure the least amount of transfer & movement. Wear open toes shoes if weather permits, close toed with socks if not. If it’s raining, and you have to leave the tanning location, please bring an umbrella!
This is the best thing to wear if you have one!
Avoid tight clothings.
Tight clothing against the skin will absorb the tan before it has a chance to develop.
You will be asked to remove glasses, jewelry, watches and bandaids, etc.
*Permanent Jewelry is okay to get sprayed with.
NO TIGHT CLOTHING INCLUDING BRAS/SPORT BRAS FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS. If you sleep in your tan, wear loose, long sleeve top and pants to bed to avoid cosmetic bronzer from transferring onto your sheets.
Our solution is water soluble in most fabrics, but can stain whites, satin, and lace. So please be careful. -
We will ask you to undress to your comfort level.
Birthday suit, swimsuit/bikini, boxers, shorts, t-shirt, bra or undies!
It’s completely up to your comfort level and Silla Beauty is comfortable with whatever you choose.
*Men will not be spray tanned nude.
Keep spray tan lines in mind when you're deciding what to wear for your tan.
We will provide you with a hairnet, disposable undies, nipple stickies, barrier cream, and feet stickies.
An optional disposable nose plug is available if requested.
Once you have been sprayed, we will dry you & apply a complimentary finishing powder to ensure proper drying!
NOTE: Our solution is water-soluble and should come out of most fabrics. However, there are some fabrics like whites, satin’s, and lace that the solution could possibly stain. -
IMMEDIATELY AFTER
The tan you see is not your true tan. It takes 8-12 Hours for your tan to fully develop. The longer it stays on the deeper the tan will be.
During this time:
DO NOT Scratch the skin.
DO NOT Put your palms flat on spray tanned skin.
DO NOT Sweat
DO NOT Wash hands, use sanitizer and be careful with it. You do not want to end up with streaks.
DO NOT Get wet.
DO NOT Wear perfumes, deodorants or lotions on the skin.
DO NOT Wear anything that will chafe the skin. This includes: watches, socks, strappy shoes, bras, etc.You can sleep while your tan develops. Be mindful of your bedding, anything that is white/light will get residue on it and even though the tan is water based, it will still be difficult to clean.
8-12 HOURS AFTER YOUR TAN
YOUR FIRST SHOWER IS A RINSE NOT A CLEANSE!!
DO NOT USE SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER, BODY WASH, ETC.
DO NOT Wash your hair.
DO NOT Wash your body with soap.
DO NOT Shave.
DO NOT Wash your face with cleanser.
Rinse with tepid water, not hot.
Use the palms of your hand to guide all the bronzer off your skin.
When you notice that the pool around your feet is clear, you know you got it all.
Once you have all the bronzer rinsed off, step out of the shower and PAT YOURSELF DRY. Do not scrub yourself with the towel to dry off.
Once dry, use a WATER BASED LOTION to “seal” in your tan!
DO NOT use oil based as it breaks down the tan and causes uneven fading.
Silla Beauty has trusted lotions for sale or Click here for a trusted water based body lotion.
Once you’re all lotioned up it’s safe to use deodorants, perfumes, and lotions!
After 5 hours, you can have a full shower, just keep in mind not to scrub skin, don’t use oil based cleansers or scrubs, and lotion once you hop out!
Keeping the skin hydrated is going to help keep your skin tanned for longer! -
Spray Tanning is Mobile, so we come to you!
-
You can get a spray tan any time of the year. The best time to get a spray tan is 2-3 days before an event.
We STRONGLY encourage you to get a trial tan before your event to ensure there is no issues with prep and aftercare. This way you can decide which day you like best and gives us a better idea on when to do your tan before an event so you like it.
WE WILL NOT SPRAY TAN SOMEONE FOR THE FIRST TIME BEFORE A BIG EVENT! -
A sunburn is considered irritated skin and you will not be getting a spray tan
If your skin is peeling, you will not be getting a spray tan.
If this happens and I arrive to your location, you will be considered a late cancellation and required to pay the full amount of your tan $75 plus the $15 travel fee. -
We can do our best to blend the tan lines but it is not guaranteed to cover them completely.
Be mindful in the sun if you know you’re wanting a spray tan. Always wear SPF to protect the skin.
Avoid any clothing that gives a harsh or large tan line like thick straps or sports bras with multiple straps and fabrics that are laced, or have random openings. -
Try not to rest your hand flat on any body surface with the tanning solution. It can transfer, thus developing on the hands.
If you need to remove it, the best way to remove it, is by getting a small amount of baking soda and a few drops of water to make a paste. Intentionally place it on the palms and gently exfoliate the area. Be sure not to get it on the tops of the hands.
If that isn’t quite doing it, add a drop of lemon juice and that help it lift a bit more. When rinsing it be careful not to get streaks on the arms or top of hands.
-
We will ask how your prep went and confirm no oil based products were used. If you say you’re not sure or you have, you will not be getting a tan because it will not develop properly.
In order to prevent an uneven, patchy or streaky tan, please arrive to your appointment without any SPF, lotions, oils, butters, deodorant, perfume, make-up or any other products on your skin.
If this happens and I arrive to your location, you will be considered a late cancellation and required to pay the full amount of your tan $75 plus the $15 travel fee. -
No, we are trained in giving you the glow you want by applying the formula with an airbrush applicator by hand.
-
No, we use the best tanning solution with undertones to suit all skin types.
We will determine where you fall on the Fitzpatrick Scale and what your undertones are and your desired colour to ensure you do not turn orange. -
Depending on your skin type, pre tan preparation and after tan care, a tan will last up to 10 days.
Hydrate!
It is recommended to follow the prep carefully and to keep the skin moisturized daily to prolong the tan! -
Try one of our Rapid Tans!
The Rapid Tan requires less time to develop and can be showered off after 2-5 hours, depending on how dark you’d like to be.
We will get you to set an alarm before we leave your location.
Light tan: 2 hours
Medium tan: 2-3 hours
Dark tan: 5 hours.
Regular tanning solutions must be left on 8 - 12 hours. -
NO! You will still burn if you’re not wearing SPF.
Although your skin may look darker after a spray tan, there is absolutely no UV protection.
Always remember to apply a high SPF sunscreen that is a minimum of 30! -
ALWAYS ask your doctor. Always.
When it comes to pregnancy and Spray Tans you should a run it by your doctor.
Our solution is pregnancy safe and has been approved before, but we will not spray you unless you get confirmation from your doctor and you will have to sign a form stating this to be true. -
You can still get a tan if you are nursing. It’s best to wear a strapless bra.
If you go topless or use nipple stickies, the developing phase of the tan, if you nurse, can come off onto the baby and it will develop on them which can look a bit silly or they could possibly ingest it.
Please let us know that you are nursing and we will avoid that area. -
Yes! I will guide you through the positions and tell you exactly how to stand and position yourself.
If you are unable to stand or hold positions for an extended period of time, we can use a stool to sit on or a chair to hold onto. -
No. If you want to work out during the 8-12 hour developing time, we do not recommend it as you risk friction or sweating which can cause streaks.
You can work out after 8-12 hours and if you’ve had your first Rinse + Seal.
If you want to work out the same day as your tan, we suggest opting for a Rapid Tan. -
DHA (dihydroxyacetone), combined with anti-aging, skin-firming ingredients is the main compound that produces a customized bronze glow. DHA has been an approved cosmetic additive by HC and the FDA for over 30 years. Chemists have refined the technology to produce the most outstanding formulation that results in silky smooth, glowing skin.
-
Yes, you still have to wait!
The tan you see after your spray tan isn’t your true tan. It is a bronzer that acts as a guide so we don’t miss any spots and so you have that instant gratification of being tan.It will continue to develop over 8-12 hours and when you have your first rinse, this is what you will see getting rinsed off, not your true tan, just the bronzer.
-
The deepness of your tan depends solely on your desired shade plus your skin colour, type, and undertones.
We will assess your skin to ensure you are getting the tan you want!
We have multiple different shades that are suitable for all skin types no matter where you fall on the Fitzpatrick Scale! -
Absolutely, We have shade options for people who are higher on the Fitzpatrick Scale.
People of all skin tones can get a spray tan and still get a beautiful result! Though, the purpose is often different. For fair skin tones its to get a bronzed look.
For deeper skin tones, it’s not about getting “darker” it is more about definition, luminosity and glow!
On deeper skin tones spray tanning can even out complexion and enhance undertones!
You will still need SPF if you are higher on the Fitzpatrick Scale. -
No. There is no such thing as an organic tanning solution.
The formulas in our solution are made with natural and naturally derived ingredients that deliver a stunning and radiant tan to everyone.
The term "organic" is frequently used in spray tan marketing, but it's a bit misleading. A true "organic" product would need to meet strict standards, and those standards don't apply to the process of tanning the skin.
Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is the main ingredient that causes the browning effect in spray tans. While it's derived from natural sources, the processing involved can make it difficult to label as "organic". Our solutions are made with naturally derived DHA.
All our solutions that we use are paraben-free, sulfate-free, gluten-free and nut oil-free.
Our products we use are enriched with skin-loving ingredients such as a blend of vitamins A, B, C, D E, Aloe Vera, Elderflower, white and green tea extract, coconut, meadow foam and jojoba oil to smoothen and nourish the skin while offering a beautiful and bronzed complexion. -
Yes! NUDA is a Canadian company!
-
Once you have rinsed + sealed, you can go swimming.
Your tan will not last as long if you are swimming, soaking in bath/hot tubs, in a sauna or sweating but you can do these activities.
Just remember its not going to last as long. -
It is one of the better tans for smell but it does have a slight “tanning” scent to it but it’s not strong and doesn’t last after the rinse.
-
It’s probably best to not get spray tanned if you are allergic.
If you really want one, check with your doctor and get approval. You will be asked to sign a form stating that you have approval from your physician.
We can send you an ingredient list so you can ensure that the tan is right for you.
